Lerato and Ubuntu

It took a while, but we FINALLY got a group photo of the class with the students in their tshirts. These are students from Kgabareng School, and the photo doesn’t include those attending Thabang, Rehauhetswe or Kgolagano as those students made different designs. You’ll see them in upcoming posts!

Oil Painting At The Piet Pasta Arts Centre!

This week at the Piet Patsa Arts Centre a small group of advanced students and teachers-in-training are learning the basic techniques for oil painting. Students have been learning about a variety of materials used in painting, testing out primed paper and gesso-ed canvas. Chuckles have rippled through the classroom as the Italian “gesso” is pronounced the same as the Sesotho word for Jesus. Yesterday a whole day was spent creating “under paintings,” testing out perspective drawing-skills with the subject of Lion match boxes. The results have been quite impressive so far. As most of you may know, oil painting is not for the faint of heart!
Upcoming Student Finale
We know most of our blog supporters are a great distance from Viljoenskroon-Rammolutsi in South Africa, but we desperately wish you could partake in this exciting end-of-the-year event! Our students faces are flushed deep red out of excitement for the chance to share the visual artwork and collaborative performances they have dedicated themselves to producing in 2011. Over 96 students will be sharing their work and we are beside ourselves with glee!

Walala Wasala: You snooze you lose!
Wishing luck to 2011 Matrics!
November is the month all Senior-level South African students look forward to with dreaded anticipation. It is the month of Matric exams that determine a student’s chances of finishing Secondary School with a certificate in hand. We wish our Matric students luck as we know they are studying hard! We believe in you and know you can do it. Yebo!
